Hyacinth Smith, Vice President, Legal and Regulatory
Hyacinth T. Smith is a seasoned legal professional, with over 17 years’ experience in legal practice. Called to both the English and Bahamian Bar, she holds an LLB from the University of Buckingham, an LLM in Commercial and Corporate Law from Queen Mary, University of London, and completed the Bar Vocational Course at BPP Law School in Leeds.
Currently serving as VP of Legal and Regulatory at Cable Bahamas Group of Companies, Hyacinth provides strategic legal guidance on telecommunications regulations and compliance while actively championing initiatives that promote greater inclusion of women in the ICT sector. Her expertise in navigating complex regulatory frameworks stems from her tenure as Regulatory Manager at the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA), where she played a pivotal role in shaping industry policies. Prior to this, she honed her litigation skills at the Office of the Attorney General, handling a broad spectrum of legal matters, including employment, commercial, and public law cases.
Beyond her corporate and regulatory work, Hyacinth is deeply committed to mentorship and advocacy, empowering young women to carve out their space in ICT. She believes in fostering opportunities for the next generation of female leaders in technology and regularly engages in initiatives aimed at bridging gender gaps in the field. Her passion for ensuring women have a voice and presence in the evolving technological landscape is a driving force in both her professional and personal mission.
