The Cable Bahamas Group partnered with the Nassau Bahamas Alumna Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. for their recent Lunch and Learn event, discussing Gender Equality with Teens. The webinar was part of their overarching campaign being hosted in tandem with the global initiative observed on November 25 known as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The webinar featured a special presentation from Dr.Carlos Reid, Pastor of The Hope Center which discussed effective means of conflict resolution, showing value and respect to all genders and the importance of noticing the signs of abuse and working to prevent gender based violence.
More than 100 high schools in New Providence, Central Eleuthera, and the Berry Islands tuned in for the informative session and were treated to special prizes provided by The Cable Bahamas Group including gift cards and vouchers for Aliv and Amazon.
Shakera Rolle, Social Action Committee Chair of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the Nassau Bahamas Alumnae Chapter (NBAC)served as host for the event and said, “The topic of gender basedviolence has been at the forefront of national headlines in recent weeks. We simply cannot leave our youth out of the conversation regarding prevention violence against women and children. It may take several generations of progress before change can be permanent, but heightened awareness is a first step in changing the attitudes and behavior that perpetuate or condone the various forms of violence and abuse. I strongly believe that the webinar was very impactful for to the kids that were in attendance as they were empowered to stand up, speak out and act against violence against women and children.”
Davrielle Burrows, Senior Corporate Communications Coordinator for the Cable Bahamas Group noted that the choice to support the event was an easy one. “We were happy to support this important conversation regarding ways to reduce gender based violence in our communities. The Cable Bahamas Group seeks to engage in strategic partnerships with various community groups that we believe will have impact in the lives of our young people and hopefully create a brighter more equitable tomorrow.”
