Cable Bahamas networks ready and certified for hurricane season
We are confident in our network reliability and disaster response capabilities.
It is my pleasure to be here today as we embark on what we hope to become a fortified and strategic partnership between Cable Bahamas Group of companies and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). We recognize that strong and efficient partnerships are critical to disaster response because they enhance the community’s overall response capability.
As the nation’s leading telecommunications provider, we stand prepared and equipped to keep customers connected before, during and after a hurricane. Our teams work tirelessly to ensure hurricane readiness. We started our preparation for our networks this hurricane season in May to ensure seamless failover and resilience and I am proud to say that we are ready and certified for this hurricane season.
How we prepare
The network testing we do in the lead up to hurricane season is key to ensuring that power supplies are resilient in all major hubs. Our checks and balances for readiness included preparing networks to ensure we have resiliency, testing backup generators, ensuring adequate pre-deployment of resources to the Family Islands, and installing vestibules to reduce the risk of flooding under extreme weather conditions.
With our advanced business continuity and disaster programs, we are confident in our network reliability and disaster response capabilities and we place strong emphasis on maintaining and providing customers with the best, most reliable network which is a priority for Cable Bahamas Group of Companies.
Strategic Partnership
It is also why our strategic partnership with NEMA is so important and essential. We understand that staying connected during severe weather conditions is critically important.
In addition to our participation in the National Emergency Operations Centre as a member of the Emergency Support Function for Communications, we are proud to make a donation to NEMA of our Aliv Push to Talk handsets with 6-months of data service to operate now and throughout the hurricane season. These devices will enable multiple point to point communication over the ALIV LTE data network which will allow teams to stay connected and communicate simultaneously with one another as needed, with the simple push of a button.
We thank NEMA for the opportunity to work along with us and look forward to strengthening our partnership.
Thank you.
