Hands 4 Hunger wins top prize in Cable Bahamas NGO Contest

The Connecting People Who Care Campaign finale revealed that Hands 4 Hunger was victorious.

Precious Fortune Thompson, Volunteer and Events Coordinator for Hands 4 Hunger won the top prize in the Connecting People Who Care Campaign, held by the Cable Bahamas Group of Companies. The campaign invited members of the public to choose their favorite NGO as well as the hero, representing that organization to help them win the top prize, 6 months of Free Cable Bahamas Business Solutions Services. Also competing for the top prize were The Bahamas Red Cross, which was represented by Exanna Dormeus, and Bahamas Harvest Church, represented by Jody Knowles.

During the 6 week campaign which began on National Heroes Day and concluded on November 24th, just one day before Thanksgiving, the Cable Bahamas team produced videos highlighting both the organizations and their chosen hero to provide insight into the mission-critical community work they perform, every day. More than 56,000 votes were logged on rev.bs/connectingpeoplewhocare, a special webpage that was dedicated to the competition.

Mr. Franklyn Butler, CEO of the Cable Bahamas Group said during remarks at the finale, “We launched the Connecting People Who Care Campaign on National Heroes Day with the hope of highlighting the work of several Cable Bahamas Business Solutions customers who are doing heroic work within the country. We took that effort a step further by inviting each organization to nominate a hero who they believed was especially deserving of recognition for their hard work and dedication.”

The campaign ended with a special finale party for nominees and their families at Fusion Superplex VIP 2 hosted by Anthony Coakley, better known as AC and with music provided by More 94’s Big L. At the end of the night, it was revealed that Precious Fortune Thompson and Hands 4 Hunger were the winner. Precious received one year of free residential services from REV, a 50’ Flat Screen Samsung TV, courtesy of CTI Cellular, and $1,000 in cash. Hands 4 Hunger received 6 months of free CBBS services along with $2,000 in cash. The second and third prize winners also won prizes including a laptop and tablet and free REV services as well.

Mr. Butler concluded by saying, “As the leader in enabling Connected Lifestyles and experiences, we consider it our duty to provide the robust, reliable connectivity that is needed to foster the human connection. Our business is about people not just profit.”
